(1) How long have you been making installations?

Since 1979 at “Belas Artes” school of São Paulo/Brasil.

(2) Why did you choose to make installations and not anything else?

From the moment the work revealed that a support of the space to interact was needed.

(3) What do you think of your own works?

They are appropriation of some moments of existence.

(5) What do you think of the relationship of traditional artwork and installation?

When I'm with a conventional work I can turn it into an installation.

(7) Could you mention the installation you consider to be the largest and the smallest one?

The biggest was “The Womb Project” - a video installation made for the contemporary saloon of arts and technology of Campinas/SP, in 1988. I used a giant drum to soak leather of more than two tonnes of weight with rocks and sand around it to make the level within higher where a video camera showed images of the video “Technology of the Unconscious”. The smallest was _“The Kingdom of the Silence” produced for a group exhibition “Miniaturart” in 1988 at the Rio-Pardense Museum. In a corner on the floor, between blocks of concrete I created a zen garden with stones, ocean shells and thorn in a box with a glass cover.

(8) Is there any object or idea that cannot be installed?

I think there is no limit to art, especially in the range of installation.

(9) How does environment affect the installation of the work?

When I make an installation I try to create an appropriate atmosphere with sound - light - material - space - image.

(10) Do you know any fact that restricts the possibilities of installation?

The mentality of certain artists who haven't realized the relation of different things in the world yet.

(12) What do you think of preserving an installation?

As everything in the world transforms, evolutes, I don't see any reason in preserving a space installed because time is also important in a relation between the materials and the space. So why preserve it?

(13) Can the value of an installation be estimated and how?

My job is not commercial and I think it's a contradiction to put price in an installation.

(14) How does copyright apply to installations preserved only in documents?

Who patented the discovery of space and time?

Bene TREVISIAN (BR)
