PUBLIC ART - Köztéri művészet

A reprezentatív jellegű és tradicionálisan értelmezett "köztéri szobrászat" fogalmát műfajilag és tartalmilag is kitágító, a 60-as évek kommunikációs igénnyel fellépő társadalmi mozgalmaival párhuzamosan kialakuló "galérián kivüli művészet"-re alkalmazott terminus, mely a társadalmi nyilvánosság tereiben és annak problémáihoz kötődő, kötetlen műfajú, legtöbb esetben helyspecifikus és minden esetmeb kontextusfüggő, a művészek bevonásával, vagy művészek kezdeményezésre létrejövő, viszont elsődlegesen a nem művészet-orientált közönségréteget megcélzó illetve bevonó, s e közönség felőli visszacsatolás igényén alapuló tevékenységeket foglalja magába. A fogalom a 90-es években vált bevetté és elterjedtté.

"A ´public art´ legtöbb esetét a nyilvánosság (közönség) közvetlen, megélt valóságai és a művészeknek ezekhez a valóságokhoz való tényleges kötődésre, a politikai és társadalmi változásokban való részvételre irányuló igénye közötti diszkontinuitás jellemzi. Ahol a nyilvánosság heterogén és érdektelen az esztétikai aktivitás iránt, a nyilvános fórumot (mesterségesen) fel kell találni"..."Amikor viszont a valóságos nyilvánosságnak ténylegesen köze van ugyanazokhoz az adott eseményekhez és társadalmi szituációkhoz, amik a művészt is motiválják...mondható, hogy autentikus "Public Art" valósul meg."
